The City's Community Development Department includes the Current Planning Division, Advance Planning/Economic Development Division, Building and Safety, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the Office of the Director.
The Advance Planning/Economic Development Division is responsible for long-range planning of the City, including the preparation of amendments to the Municipal Code and the General Plan. The division is also involved in the development of projects, such as senior housing developments like Emerald Villas. Other responsibilities include managing the City's transit contracts for Cerritos On Wheels (COW) and Dial-A-Ride, and economic development and business retention.
